Majority is focused on email outreach, On-page SEO, SkyScrapper technique, link building, broken link building etc.
There are plenty of guides available for a blog post link building and higher ranking on Google.
Whenever I look for keyword research tips or how to rank keywords, I don’t find any good helpful content to direct me properly.
Almost nobody is interested in sharing tips on how to find keyword that will assist a new website in ranking high and also gain Google trust.
If you’re spending a lot of your time perfecting your posts and then pressing Publish to share your content with the world, but you’re still not happy with the traffic flow, then the issue is definitely keyword research.
There is a probability that you’re not targeting the correct keywords required in the blog post, hence the low traffic.
Once you get to know how to properly target the right keywords, then you can start earning money with affiliate marketing or AdSense.
You might’ve guessed by now, today’s article is based on keyword research.

There are quite a few types of keywords and it’s very important to understand them as it helps in your search for keywords. Let’s take a look:

Short tail keywords
Short tail keywords are also known as Generic keywords and they don’t have intent around it. They are broad keywords which can also be called general keywords.
These keywords are extremely general that at times they don’t have any intention. They are hard to monetize and equally hard to rank.
For example: SEO, Weight Loss, WordPress etc.

Mid-tail keywords:
Mid-tail keywords have some sort of information but it generally incomplete. Majority of the keywords have a little amount of information in them.
For example: SEO Tips, Weigh Loss Diet, WordPress themes etc.

Long tail keywords:
Long tail keywords are very specific. User’s intent is extremely easy to understand with this type of keyword.
These are money making keywords, which are also known as buyer persona keywords. Your should rank keywords like these.
If you wish to cater to customers who are interested in buying Samsung Phone cases in San Francisco, then you’re main keywords should be “Samsung Phone Cases”, but if you want to make it a long tail keyword, you should be more specific and write long-sized keywords.
For example:
- Buy Phone Cases in New York
- Best Phone Cases in New York
- Buy Cheap Phone Cases in New York
- Best Prices Phone Cases New York
So did you observe that I actually transformed a two-word keyword into a long keyword of five words?
The whole idea surrounding a long tail keyword is that it’s simple to target. “Buy Phone Cases in New York” is much easier to target than “Phone Cases”

Seasonal keywords:
These keywords search volume are found in particular seasons only.
These keywords are not searched by people in all seasons, but when a specific season arrives, the search volume of it increases dramatically.
For example: New Year Wallpapers, Best Vacuum Cleaner for Home

Evergreen keywords are always present in the market, regardless of the season.
If you wish to open a long term website, then you should start searching evergreen keywords and create a relevant niche website.

Buyer keywords:
Buyer keywords are most significant for bloggers, advertisers and affiliate marketers.
These keywords help in generating sales; people searching them are buyers that means it will help you to earn money online.
For example: WP Astra Review, A2HostingCoupon, Grammarly Coupon
Types of buyer keywords:
- Informational Keywords
These keywords are problem-oriented, people looking for them know their problem but they still haven’t found the solution. So they search for informational keywords to make their lives easier.
For example: How to install WordPress, How to improve your memory
- Navigational Keywords
People who have some knowledge about what they are searching, these keywords target them. They know about the product, but they still open Google to gather more information.
Let’s assume that the customer wants to buy IPhone X, but is curious to see its reviews so they will search “Iphone X reviews” “IPhone X Specs” etc
- Transactional keywords
These keywords are buyer keywords; they contribute to the buying decision of the customer. When people search for “Where to Buy IPhone X” on Google, this means that they have reached the buying phase.
These keywords are extremely important if you want to earn money with affiliate marketing and majority of times they are expensive to feature on Google Ads.
If you take a look at Google and search keywords like Deal, Discount etc you’ll come across tons of ads.
The reason being, these are the keywords that makes you earn money.

Geo targeted keywords:
Geo targeted keywords are usually searched in particular geo only. People who search for these keywords are in the buying stage.
For Example: Best Restaurants in New York City, Best College in California.

Trending keywords:
Trending keywords have an extremely small life. They appear suddenly and then vanish after some days.
People generally search these keywords when there is an event happening around that time.
For Example: Donald Trump’s Speech in Houston, Harry and Meghan’s wedding in Windsor.

Product-oriented keywords:
As the name suggests these words are about brands or products. These keywords are searched by people who are interested in a specific brand or product.
For Example: Apple’s air pods, Samsung Galaxy Tabs

LSI keywords:
LSI stands for Latent Semantic Indexing. These keywords are quite closely associated with the main keywords, and usually give content a much greater value.
Google’s work becomes a bit easier when you begin to incorporate these kinds of keywords in your blog post as it starts to understand your article much better.
The word Apple is used for a Fruit as well as s Phone, so what does Google do to differentiate between the two.
It just looks for LSI keywords and smartly identifies what you’re referring to.
So if the search engine comes across a keyword like IPhone or Steve Jobs it will assume it’s talking about an Apple IPhone. Whereas, if the LSI keywords are health, fruit, eat then it knows that it’s not the phone but the fruit.
LSI keywords will also be discussed after a while.
Google Ads Oriented keywords

These keywords are targeted by advertisers when they are featuring their Ads on Google or any other search engine.
You may come across a column when you are looking to rank keywords in Google that shows competitions is Low, Medium or High. This column is basically targeted towards advertisers. It means that they have to tackle that competition if they want their Ads to run for the intended keyword.
Now let’s try to comprehend keywords from Google Ads perspective.

Broad match keywords
These keywords are set by default in Google Ads tool. If you place any keyword in your Ad, it automatically targets all kinds of related keywords that surround your main keyword. After the addition of broad keywords, the ads will be targeted to people who are looking for closely related keywords or their synonyms.

Phrase match keywords
Phrase match Ads gets only displayed when that particular phrase matches with the Ad.
Suppose when you write “hire a carpenter” as a phrase match keyword, you are basically telling Google Ads to display only when someone searches for close matches of it like “how to hire a carpenter”

Exact match keywords
These kinds of Ads bring the best outcome if you are targeting the right keywords on Google. They will only show up when you are looking for that precise keyword.
“Dog leash” or “Leash for dogs”, is basically requiring the same thing.
Close variation helps you in reaching out to people searching for business, regardless of fewer variations. This also lessens the need to create a long list of keywords to connect with the customers.
How to look for SEO keywords

Now that we have covered the types of keywords, the next step is to look for long tail keywords because they are very easy to rank.
So let’s start searching. I am supposing that you can use Google Keyword Planner to search keywords, so this will not be covered under this article.
For now our focus will be on other things like how we can acquire easily ranked keywords in multiple search engines.

Before you begin to carry out keyword research, you need to define the main keywords.
What you can do is make a list of up to 10 keywords related to your niche and save it for future use.
It is important to have substantial knowledge about the market of your niche and sub-niche.

Google auto-suggest is extremely good at finding LSI and long tail keywords. Whenever you put in the main keyword, Google instantly starts recommending other relevant keywords that are equally good.
This smart feature of Google comprehends the search queries very easily and then suggests closely related keywords just to make your life easier.

Checking Google Ads before I begin with my blog post is my most favorite thing to do.
More Google Ads means that the product generates more profit.
When you open up an Ad you get to see a relevant website that has the highest ranking in Google.
All you need to do is write down the website’s URL when you come across an Ad in Google.

Keyword research can be done with a tool
SEMRush is a spying tool that works hard to look for relevant keyword in your niche, other tools like it can also be used.
For me personally, SEMRush provided me ranking data in Google for 1.1k keywords and helped in driving a lot of traffic, i.e. around 7000 visitor on a single blog post in a month.
Once you get hold of the list of ranking keywords, you can export the entire list and analyze the keywords so your next blog post can generate a good amount of traffic.
When you set the advanced filter, it helps you to filter out long tail keywords that are much easier to rank.
Keywords that have more than 4 words generally are the most easiest to rank keywords, so it’s better to target those.
So with the help of tools, your keyword research becomes simpler and more productive, you just have to spend a little money for those quality services.

As mentioned before, LSI keywords are extremely significant as they enhance the value of the content so it becomes SEO friendly.
There are three main tools to look for LSI keywords, these are:

This helps you in finding multiple keywords that are based around the seed keyword.
- LSI Graph
This tool is free and produces Latest Semantic Indexing keywords to pen down a top notch blog post.
- SEMRush
This multipurpose tool can be used to perform many SEO related activities. The Keyword Magic tool in SEMRush works extremely well in finding LSI keywords. You can take advantage of this tool by setting a word count filter of 4 to 8 words, and it will automatically display long tail keywords.

I added the URL quora.com in the search box at SEMRush and fetched all the keywords from Quora.
